Salvage Takes London

On May 12th, Salvage, by Diane Glancy (Cherokee), makes its triumphant return to the stage as part of this Spring's Origins Festival in London, England. As you read this, sets and actors are in transit to Riverside Studios, London, to begin final rehearsals for this emotionally riveting play about a feud between families that escalates beyond anyone's control.

Originally produced by Native Voices at the Autry in October 2008 and featuring the original Los Angeles cast, Salvage is the only entry from the United States represented in the festival, which highlights outstanding indigenous theater from around the world.

"The Autry ... has a winner with Salvage" noted Variety in 2008.

Performances will be as follows:

May 12th-15th showtimes at 8pm;

May 16th, performances at 4pm and 8pm;

May 17th, final performance at 5pm ---(All times GMT)

Elena Finney (Mescalero-Apache, Tarascan)

and Robert Owens-Greygrass (Lakota) in Salvage

The Native community in the Twin Cities is strong -- but it's been a number of years since there has been a Native production in town. As some of you might know, Mixed Blood Theater has been around since the 1970's -- and their very first production was called "Indians." Mixed Blood opened their doors to Native activists -- and it is awesome that we're now BACK in the theater to showcase what we're like now.

Directed by the excellent Sarah Rassmussen and crafted by Rhiana Yazzie, "Red Ink" also features a brilliant all-Native cast including Cochise Anderson, Juanita Blackhawk, Clementine Bordeaux, Ernest Briggs, George Keller and....me.

Here's the info:

The Mixed Blood Theater and I must say they rolled out the "Red" carpet for us. Last night, we had a preview audience (a benefit for the "Circle" newspaper) and those NDNs were rockin' and rollin' in the aisles. Our official opening is on Friday and I've been told there are only about 20 tickets left.

Get your tickets NOW!

Hope those of you in the Twin Cities area will come on down -- and if you're not, tell your friends and family to come out and support.
