Elizabeth Cordova

I am the Current EEO Specialist for the Long Beach VA Medical Center. I began my career with the Department of Veterans Affairs since April of 89 as a GS-1 step 1 Pharmacy Aid, I then moved my way up working through various areas and challenges to my current position in EEO. I currently serve as a senior mediator and group facilitator for the Office of Dispute Resolution since July of 1999. My objective as a mediator/facilitator is to resolve disputes more quickly and at less cost which will allow the organization to move ahead with our mission objectives.

I have been the Native American Special Emphasis Program Manager since 1993, hosting various successful Indian programs for Native American Observance Month. My mission as the Special Emphasis Program Manager for the Native American Employment Program is to educate and sensitize employees about American Indians and its history. I strive to honor our people, I strive to strives to promote harmony of the sacred colors; red, yellow, black and white. My vision under all Special Emphasis Programs is to achieve a diverse workforce, reflected at all employment levels, especially in recruitment/retention, upward mobility, and promotion

As an EEO Specialist I assist the EEO Manager and coordinate efforts to resolve EEO issues by advising management of issues that should be resolved and work with management and human resources as well as the complainants to develop settlement agreements that is consistent with regulations.

I am a great single mother of two gorgeous daughters (Melinda & Nadia), born in Albuquerque New Mexico, my blood line is a mix of Navajo ¼ Indian (by the water clan), and Spanish. I speak Spanish, limited Navajo, Egyptian and English. I come from a beautiful valley in New Mexico, the place of enchantment and enlightenment raised by great leaders, who taught me spiritual balance, the strength in prayer, respect, patience, love and courteous, considerate and understanding. We may have not had much, but we had what we needed. I will never forget where I came from…

I will continue my journey to be a successful future leader, my ears and my heart is open and I hear the words echoed from our land. With indigenous people always in mind I want to be a part of the circle that ensures that they recognized, and included in today’s discussions that affect this country's future.

I enjoy supporting both of my daughters goals and dreams. If I am not at a horse ranch with my youngest daughter Nadia, then I am at theatre watching my oldest daughter Melinda perform her many great performances.

My goals are really for the people for the mission. I strive in making a difference in any customer service I provide, not only for our Native American community, the VA staff, but also to the Veterans who have sacrificed their lives to save ours.
